Dave began his illustrious DJ career in the late 1980s when the rise in popularity of 'Dance' music threatened the survival of the traditional 'Black' music scenes in the UK such as Soul and Jazz.
Dave began a club under the name DDC which commanded a loyal support amongst like minded people and Dave's which led to first meeting with the team at JazBah®.
DDC was primarily organising events around the M25 / Home Counties and Dave was invited to DJ at the legendary Caister Weekenders. Soon afterwards he was invited to bring the cocktail of Black Music styles where, Soul, Jazz, Hip Hop, Reggae all got aired, into London.
After the success Red Eye club in Lewisham, South East London a new venture beckoned named Soul Survivors with Dave and Clive Johns at the helm moved to the Starlight in London’s Paddington area in 1991.
Dave's unique style directed him towards New Jack Swing & Hip Hop, he developed a huge following, Soul Survivors became London's No1 R&B club preceding all others and its style set the tone and pace for today's R&B scene.
Soul Survivors won several polls as the UK's Number 1 Club, featured clearly on National Terrestrial Television, and commanded a full feature in the London Times as well as many other press articles.
Dave industrious and affable personality led him to be involved in prestigious United Kingdom shows featuring major US artists such as Boyz II Men, De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, The Fugees, and Outkast many of which are now household names for a new generation. His stunning array of talents led him to journalism more writing for the internationally respected magazine, Blues and Soul magazine.
Dave was instrumental in creating the R&B room at the legendary Southport Weekender. Faithfully, Dave’s desire for traditional Soul and Jazz led him to never miss to spin at JazBah® where he was is and truly respected.
A MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Nomination arrived in 1998 for the night at Corks in London but by then Dave created The Starlight Crew with DJs, Rappers, Singers and Dancers, The Starlight Crew still operate today playing the length and breadth of the UK as well as across Europe and Dave is still involved.
It is to be noted, Dave has been a mentor to many of the successful DJ’s currently serving on the circuit and has quietly been that, for many years.
